Carmen B. Pingree school for children with autism

I now work at a school called Carmen B. Pingree. Chris and I both work here at the school. Chris works with the elementary kids and I work with the preschool kids. It is the best job ever, there is never a dull moment.

You have to have alot of patients sometimes, we have sessions with the kids were we teach the kids what they need to work on in different areas. Sessions can be hard if they don't want to work. Sometimes its feels a lot like babysitting because there is diaper changing, and disciplining but we also get to do fun things with the kids. In my class we have done things like water day, feild trip to look at birds, painting, ext. Chris's class has gone to the dollar theatre, walks to get slushies, bounce gym, ext. So all the hard work pays off when we get to play with the cute kids.

Right now we dont have school so a lot of the time it doesn't really feel like we are working at all. We get to color, cut, take pictures, things like that that you wouldn't think of as work. My class room's theme is a jungle. I am so excited, we have a pet snake named Charles. Chris's class room isn't finished being built so we have no idea what is going to happen in the next few weeks. His classrooms theme is from the "brown bear, brown bear" book.

We have now been working here for 7 months, this job is amazing. It is emotionaly and physically draining but we love the kids. We have both gotten to know the kids in eachothers classes. They are all so much fun. One of the kids in my class is moving out. It is so sad and he will definitly be missed. Work as been hard money wise, the 2 week break kinda set us back plus we have been having car problems one after another lately but we will be just fine.

  1. hey I came across your post. I hope you dont mine me commenting but my son is on the waiting list for the pingree school and I really am looking for more information for if/when he gets in. That's why I was looking around and found your post. He's pretty high functioning so I was curious to how much it would benefit him but thank you for writing this. I'm happy to hear that you really enjoy it!
